Databases: Accessing articles

Current, credit-enrolled COCC students, faculty, and staff have remote access to our full-text databases to review, print, and save complete journal articles from off-campus locations. For a complete list of and information on the library's databases use the drop down menu under "Articles & More: Databases" located on the main library web page.

When accessing COCC databases from off-campus locations you will be asked to enter your last name and your COCC student id number.

Please contact Tina Hovekamp (541) 383-7295, if you have problems accessing our library databases.

COCC Catalog: Searching local collections

Online library catalogs allow you to search for books, audiovisual materials, or periodical subscriptions (note: the catalog can search only for the names of the periodicals we subscribe to but does not search for articles within these periodicals).  Here at the COCC Barber Library, our library catalog provides you access to 70,000 books or so, over 1,500 videos, a number of government publications, and to the titles of over 400 periodicals we subscribe to. To search our Barber Library collection click on COCC Catalog, also located under "Books & More: Library Catalogs" on the main library web page.

Staring in Spring 2008, patrons may request delivery of books from the COCC collection to the Redmond Campus.  For more information on how to use and get set up with this service click Redmond library delivery services.

To renew your COCC materials click on the "My Library" icon on the main library web page.  For additional information visit our Circulation & Fines web page.

Summit: Requesting materials from regional library collections

Summit is the combined catalog of a consortium of academic libraries in the Northwest and your main access to library collections beyond COCC.  You may access this catalog through the link Summit, also located under "Books & More: Library Catalogs" on the main library web page.

Besides searching a huge collection of library materials, Summit allows students to request any of the circulating materials (mainly books) electronically. Once you identify an item that you want to borrow, simply follow the on-screen instructions, starting with "REQUEST THIS ITEM." The system will ask you for your name and an identification number (your college ID number). The catalog then lets you know if the item is available and responds when it has placed the request.

Summit materials are delivered to the COCC Barber Library for you to pick up within two to three working days. Alternatively, staring in Spring 2008, patrons may request delivery of Summit books to the Redmond Campus.  For more information on how to use and get set up with this service click Redmond library delivery services.

Summit items are due back in 3 weeks.  You may renew books by clicking on the "My Library" icon on the main library web page or by calling the library Circulation desk at (541) 383-7560.

Note that for Summit materials, late fees are charged as follows: $0.50 per day for the first 10 days, $1.00 per day for the next 15 days. Lost item charge: $75.00 plus $15 processing fee.

Interlibrary loan: Requesting materials outside local or regional collections

You may use our regular Interlibrary Loan services to receive materials not available through our full-text databases, COCC Catalog, or Summit. To request materials, you may use our online interlibrary loan form, also located under "Library Assistance," "Library Forms," on the main library web page.

Interlibrary loan journal articles will be scanned and emailed to your COCC email address. Interlibrary loan books are delivered to the COCC Barber Library for you to pick up within 7-10 days. Again, staring in Spring 2008, patrons may request delivery of Interlibrary Loan books to the Redmond Campus.  For more information on how to use and get set up with this service click Redmond library delivery services.

To renew interlibrary loan books call our Interlibrary Loan servivces at (541) 383-7561 or e-mail ill@cocc.edu
