These sessions are designed for students who are considering attending COCC. They provide general information about COCC and academic programs, however, the focus of the sessions is on walking potential students through the “Getting Started” steps. The session does not prepare students to register for classes…it gives them the information necessary to decide whether COCC is the right choice for them, how to apply, and how to access campus resources for any additional information they may still need, such as financial aid. |

Academic advising is providing students the tools/guidance they need to develop a class schedule based on their academic/career goals. All new, degree-seeking students are required to attend academic advising before registration and this session includes a group workshop that covers available degree options at COCC, selecting classes based on degree goals, using the catalog, balancing work/school, financial aid, reading a class schedule, and policies and procedures. After the workshop, students meet in small groups with an advisor based on their area of interest and develop their class schedule. |
